We think Yahoo! Video is the best place to view and upload video on the Web. It’s the perfect pop-culture mashup, the best of the best all video from across the Yahoo! network in one place. Of course we have unicorns, chipmunks, ninjas, cats, and robots. We also have music videos and news, sports, autos, comedy, TV clips, and movie previews.

Histoire

  • A Journey in Jeans

    by Mike Krumboltz

Walk a mile in these jeans, baby. Actually, make that around 3,000 miles. A viral video of a guy "walking" across America has become the Web's latest must-see clip.

The video, which was sponsored by Levi's and combines stop-motion with time-lapse photography, features a man (wearing denim, natch) walking from New York to San Francisco. ABC News explains that "the video is not conventional moving pictures. It pieces together still photos taken on an actual, 14-day cross country trip no green screens involved." When all was said and done, it took over 2,700 images to complete.

Of course, the man isn't really walking the entire way. Such feats are best left to Forrest Gump. Instead, the crew, which consisted of director, producer, photographer, and actor, traveled via RV for two weeks. Every so often, they'd hop out and capture some footage.

In the video, the camera follows actor Michael Johnson as he passes through different American landmarks like Washington, D.C., Chicago, Mt. Rushmore, and Las Vegas. The camera had to always remain the same distance from Mr. Johnson in order to give the video its seamless feel. You can watch the crew discuss the creative process on this video from ABC.

Though uploaded to the Web just a few days ago, the clip has already generated hundreds of thousands of views. And it's not hard to see why. The video is amazingly polished, the result of hard work and careful planning on the part of the filmmakers. Take a look at some behind the scene footage here.

By the way, that catchy tune that plays over the video is called "Home," by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.

  • Jewel Goes Undercover

    by Mike Krumboltz

We haven't heard much from singer Jewel lately. Or maybe she's just been in disguise. The incredibly popular folk singer and part-time yodeler went undercover at a Los Angeles karaoke bar to sing some of her best-known songs to a confused and delighted audience.

With a crew in tow from Funny Or Die, the singer played the part of a mild-mannered business woman named "Karen," who had to be egged on to take the stage and sing. Many of Karen's "friends" were actually actors from the comedic website. Sporting a fake nose, a boring business suit, and a dark wig, the singer acted shy, took the stage, and then promptly rocked the bar with her signature tunes.

Watching the clips, you can see the audience begin to realize that something is definitely up. Unsuspecting gawkers comment that "she sounds like Jewel," but few, if any, realize that the singer sounds like Jewel for a reason. She is Jewel.

Watch below for the prep, the performance, and the aftermath of the light-hearted prank. Beware that there is some saucy language...

  • OMG! Double Rainbow! So Intense!

    by Mike Krumboltz

So you like rainbows, huh? Heck, we all do. But not even Kermit the Frog or Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz" can match YouTube's Hungrybear9562 (real name: Paul Vasquez) for over-the-top ROYGBIV enthusiasm.

In a video that's taken the Web by storm, Mr. Vasquez captured footage of the elusive double rainbow. Wait, scratch that. It's not just a double rainbow  it's a "full" double rainbow. That means two complete arches, one on top of the other.

Even the most cynical city slicker would have to admit that the sight of the two rainbows is pretty impressive. However, while watching Mr. Vasquez's video, the visual wonder is quickly eclipsed by the videographer's voiceover.

For three minutes, he expounds on the beauty of the rainbows and the rarity of their appearance, and even begins to wonder if it's some sort of cosmic sign ("What does this mean?"). And then, at various points, Vasquez weeps. It's awkward. It's awesome. It has to be seen (and heard) to be believed. (It also contains a naughty word or two, so don't play it for your kindergartner.)

CBS tracked down the man behind the footage and talked to him about how his modest video has racked up millions of online views. Mr. Vasquez explained that he uploaded the video in January, but it wasn't until Jimmy Kimmel tweeted the clip in early July that the views started pouring in. You can watch the interview and clips from the original here...

Not surprisingly, the original video spurred tremendous search interest, as well as a slew of parodies. There's even an Auto-Tune version featuring some of Hungrybear9562's most memorable lines. Watch below and have your mind blown!

  • Help, Mama Bear: This Tree Is Too Tall

    by Claudine Zap

If the story of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" is any guide, then this video of a bear cub caught in a tree is just a part of the story. Could the little bear have climbed a lower trunk and decided it was too small? Clearly, the little guy caught at the top of a spindly branch is in a tree that is way too tall.

Fortunately, mama bear comes to the rescue of her baby bear. She tries to shake the bear down. But that doesn't work. Then she tries to get Junior to jump, but that definitely doesn't work. But this mom on a mission doesn't give up and finally puts all four paws into the job.

The video that caputres the scene is just unbearably cute. (Pun intended.) Watch to the end: We promise it's worth it. So altogether now: Awwwww.

  • Revenge of the Octopus

    by Mike Krumboltz

A few days ago, an ornery octopus stole a diver's video camera off the coast of New Zealand. What followed was a harrowing and hilarious adventure that resulted in some incredibly awesome video.

We first spotted the story at Very Short List. The video, which you can watch below, begins innocently enough. Local diver Victor Huang is shooting video with his new underwater camera. (Cue the "Jaws" music.)

Suddenly, a mischievous octopus appears out of nowhere, and clings to the $700 camera. Mr. Huang holds on for as long as he can, but the mighty mollusk wins the tug of war and swims off with Huang's new toy.

Most folks would chalk this up to incredibly bad luck and let the octopus win, but Mr. Huang pursued the creature. After a five minute chase, he managed to wrestle his camera back, with the help of his spear gun. Huang used the gun to wedge the camera away from the eight-armed thief.

But it wasn't over yet. The octopus liked playing with the spear gun and refused to let go. According an article from New Zealand Stuff, "Mr. Huang then swam around with the octopus on his speargun, saying the tentacled sea creature seemed to enjoy the ride."

Amazingly, the robbery, chase, and recovery were all captured on video. Mr. Huang never got a chance to turn off his gadget before the octopus "borrowed it." And Huang holds no grudge. He feels the octopus never intended to hurt him. "I honestly believe that it saw the bright blue digital camera and went oh I need that, you know?"

Huang posted the three minute clip on the Web and the video has quickly gone viral. In just a few days, the clip has garnered close to a million views on YouTube. It's easy to see why. The struggle, vivid colors, and knowledge that it all turned out OK (even the camera survived), make this a must-see.

  • The iPad: A Cats Perspective

    by Mike Krumboltz

The recently released iPad is, in the words of Apple cofounder and CEO Steve Jobs, a "magical and revolutionary product." That may be true from the human perspective, but how does the feline species feel about the touch-screen device?

One cat owner aimed to find out. He placed his iPad in front his cat, Iggy, to see just how user-friendly the device really is. Watch below for the results...

As you can see, Iggy finds the device quite user-friendly. Not shy about diving in with paws first, the curious cat especially enjoys creating music on the iPad's piano.  If only it came with a yarn app...

Cats dig it, but what about their arch rivals: dogs? Here's a video that shows Chloe the canine's experience with the tablet. Chloe, after some initial paw-padding, backs away and barks at Steve Jobs' wonder-product. She must be more of a PC pooch.
