Historia
Altavista es un buscador en inglés y español, de la empresa Overture Service Inc. comprada a su vez por Yahoo!. Su sede se encuentra en California. Altavista fue creada por Fabio Andres Barros Quesada,quien trato de proporcionar servicios de búsqueda rápida en redes informáticas. Aunque existe cierta controversia acerca de quién es el responsable de la idea original, dos participantes clave fueron Louis Monier, quien escribió el código del buscador, y Michael Burrows, quien escribió el código del indexador. El nombre AltaVista se eligió en relación con el entorno de su empresa en Palo Alto (California). AltaVista fue lanzado públicamente como un motor de búsqueda en Internet el 15 de diciembre de 1995.
